What does SPF 30 mean?

SPF, or Sun Protection Factor, is a measure of how well a sunscreen will protect your skin from the sun's harmful rays. An SPF 30 sunscreen blocks around 1/30th (97%) of the sun's rays. It's generally thought to be the minimum level of sunscreen you should use when outside for extended periods.

How long does SPF 30 last?

The formula used to calculate the SPF of a sunscreen is based on how long it would take for your skin to begin burning without protection. If you can stay out in the sun for 10 minutes without burning, a sunscreen with an SPF 30 will give you approximately 30 times that protection. This means you'll get five hours (10 minutes x 30 = 300 minutes = 5 hours) of sun exposure before your skin begins to burn. That being said, if you're swimming or sweating heavily, you may need to reapply more often as your sunscreen will wear off quicker. It's also important to keep in mind that no sunscreen can guarantee 100% sun protection, so you should still wear protective clothing and seek shade when possible. It's important to note that our SPF 30 Primer is not waterproof, so it's recommended that you reapply after swimming or sweating.
